New dietary guidelines for Americans

dietaryguidelinesUSA.jpg

The Government has issued an update of the first five years of their dietary guidelines for Americans. "

But, in spite of the significant U.s. obesity crisis to speak of many of the major cornerstones of the previous guidelines have remained intact.

The guidelines emphasize the upside and the need for physical activity, and to promote more food such as vegetables, fruits, wholegrains, seafood, and also cutting sodium, trans fats, sugar and refined grains.

To help in everyday life information to translate the guidelines provide advice, including but not limited to:

Enjoy the food, but to eat less.Avoid oversized items.Make a half plate of fresh fruit and vegetables. Go to free or low-fat (1%) milk. Compare foods, such as soup, bread and frozen meals and choose a lower-sodium foods with numbers. Drink water instead of sugary drinks.

The following are some of the daily limits or the objectives of the new guidelines:

Fat intake to 20-35% of total Calories.Saturated-less than 10% of the total (mono and polyunsaturated fats can be used to replace) and be burnt.Trans-fat-less than 1% of the burnt.Cholesterol less than 300 mg.Fiber 14 g per 1 000 of the burnt.4,700 milligrams of potassium.Fruit and vegetables, for a period of at least 2.5 cups.Refined grains-less than 3 oz. Sodium, select values in mg of sodium a day and less than 1 500 mg of all African Americans and hypertension, diabetes and chronic kidney disease, (including children) as well as the 50 older people.

Sodium-recommendations of the American Heart Association is shocked that wanted to see a reduction in the sodium intake blanket advice on the entire population, only certain categories of persons. AHA President Ralph Sacco, MD, said;

Sodium issue instructions to the failures of the fact that most Americans either have high blood pressure or are at risk of developing during their life cycle. All of these clearly support the national commitments to reduce to less than 1 500 mg of sodium per day, the need for all Americans.

Personally, it bothers me that these guidelines seem regurgitation formerly advice. But what to think, the Government went to a lot of these updated guidelines is enough? What would you have liked to see the match yet?
